Washington DC: The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has claimed that it has shot down a Syrian jet in Damascus and has captured the pilot.
According to CNN, Amaq, the media agency affiliated with the terrorist group made the claim, which appeared to be at least partially corroborated by the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The Observatory said a Syrian warplane had crashed in Dakwa, southeast of Damascus.
However, there was no information available on whether the crash was due to an attack or a technical failure, nor on the crew’s fate.
ISIS published a video claiming to show the flaming wreckage of the jet, with what appears to be a Syrian flag painted on the wing, however, CNN did not confirm the authenticity of the video.
ISIS also published the alleged name of the pilot, and said he was born in the city of Hama. (ANI)
