Valsad (Gujarat) [India]: Former IPS officer D.G. Vanzara, who is out on bail in the Ishrat Jahan and Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter cases, Sunday said the “encounters were not fake and the truth will come to light finally”.
While responding to questions about an FIR filed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) into the missing files pertaining to the Ishrat Jahan case, Vanzara told ANI, “The developments will keep happening in the case as we are a democratic nation, where there is rule of law and liberalism. But, because these encounters were not fake, the truth will ultimately come out, which is not on view due to misplaced files.”
“The encounter that happened in Gujarat were all legitimate, still when ‘anti-national politics’ came in the country, the Gujarat police suffered a lot of harassment. But, the final truth will come to light,” he added.
The FIR was lodged at the Sansad Marg Police Station in New Delhi on Saturday.
According to reports, the Delhi Police have initiated a probe into the case of missing documents pertaining to the Ishrat Jahan case.
Earlier in March, an MHA team had found around five different documents, including two affidavits, missing, following which it was decided that the probe would be handed over to the CBI, but later the MHA directed the Delhi Police to probe the matter.
