Ahmedabad, August 14: Shamima Kauser has demanded a CBI investigation into the encounter in which her daughter, Ishrat Jahan, was killed. Her plea is that the police officers involved in the encounter, had also investigated it later.
How did the police officers know the names and addresses of all the four persons killed in the encounter? Shamima’s petition says the investigation was flawed right from the beginning.
The police version says the DCB received a tip-off at 11 pm on June 14 that terrorists had come to Gujarat to kill the chief minister, and the encounter took place a few hours later (at 4 am on July 15, 2004). Why did the DCB not alert the state police about the blue-coloured Indica car for five hours? Why did it instead prefer to wait for the car to reach the outskirts of Ahmedabad?
The trajectory of the bullets that caused the injuries in the deceased is impossible to explain if the four had remained seated in a car with closed doors while the police fired upon the car from a distance.
According to Ishrat’s postmortem report, a bullet entered below the mastoid on the left side of her neck and went upward through the temporal. This trajectory is impossible if a person is sitting in a car while the police are firing at her from a distance.
The police had recovered Ishrat’s identity card which indicated that she was a student at a college in Thane. It is difficult to assume that a person who is going on a terrorist mission would use her own car with its correct number plate and genuine registration.
The so-called terrorists were barefoot and showed no sign of any prior preparation, which is surprising for someone who is about to carry out a terrorist strike.
