ISB to draw top firms for campus recruitment

Hyderabad, January 07: Indian School of Business (ISB), known for its high-profile placements, on Wednesday indicated that there may not be an increase in the number of companies visiting the campus for recruitments which begin around mid-January.

“The trend this year can be assessed only after the companies visit. We expect the same number of companies,if not more, to visit on day one. But it’s not about the number of companies that visit but the appetite of the top companies that matters,” said V K Menon, director of ISB.

According to ISB, in 2010, 346 companies had registered for recruitments and made offers to about 541 students. The number of recruited students was far lower when compared to 2007 and 2008, when 202 and 240 registered companies had hired 584 and 657 students respectively.

Meanwhile, ISB also said there wont be any increase in the number of seats this year. “We had not received an overwhelming response during the first round of admissions. But it is picking up in the second round. However, the number of seats this year would not be increased and remains 575 as last year,” said Deepak Chandra, deputy dean, ISB.

He added that the number of seats in 2012-13 batch would be raised when the business school’s upcoming campus in Mohali gets operational. At around the same time, it is likely to increase the fee structure by 4-5 per cent.

ISB also launched a Young Leader’s Programme (YLP) for students at the graduation level, under which it will mentor fresh graduates for two years in their work.

ISB will also pay a scholarship of `1,00,000 for students selected for this programme.

The students, after the two-year mentorship, can come back to ISB to pursue a regular post graduate programme (MBA), for which candidates with work experience alone are eligible.

The students should also clear GMAt to get selected to YLP and the same will be valid after two years for admission into the PGP module.

“The selection of students for the YLP will be rigorous and will last for six months or so,” Chandra said. The admission process for YLP will be open till March 15, he added.
