Is IT corridor going to be a car free zone every Thursday?

The Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), along with the Cyberabad Traffic Police has decided to make the busiest metropolitans IT Corridor to be a car free road on every Thursday from July 23, where all employees in the IT sector will be encouraged to carpool every Thursday.

When asked about the ideology behind this idea, Police Commissioner CV Anand said, we have taken up this initiative is to reduce pollution, ease traffic and to encourage the culture of carpooling, which is popular in several modern global cities.

“Carpooling is where a group of people travel together to a particular location in one designated car rather than using their own private vehicle. It will decreasing the number of vehicles on the road and also reduces the carbon footprint in the air”, the Police commissioner said.

After witnessing the success of initiatives such as Raahgiri, Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said that the department would like to observe every Thursday as ‘Car-free Thursday’ in the IT Zone of Cyberabad.

“It all depends on how companies are going to react. It’s a voluntary initiative, we can’t ban cars altogether or anything like that. The initiative has to come from the companies rather from the police side. We can only help in coordinating but we can’t impose it on anybody,” observed Avinash Mohanty, DCP (Traffic), Cyberabad Police.

Urging companies to come forward and take part in this initiative, Mohanty said that one day of the week is enough to have a positive impact on the health of the environment.
