Vijaywada, April 06: Firms executing the Krishna Delta Modernisation works have been told to complete them according to schedule.
Telugu Ganga Project Engineer-in-Chief B.V.S. Prakash Rao on Tuesday held a detailed review meeting with representatives of Patel Engineering Ltd., Progressive Constructions Ltd., and SEW Infrastructure Ltd., the three companies executing the works.
Later, Mr. Rao and Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathi visited the tail-end of Krishna Eastern Bank (KEB) to review the progress of the modernisation works. Minister for Major and Medium Irrigation P. Sudarshan Reddy is scheduled to visit Krishna district on Wednesday.
Mr. Parthasarathi told The Hindu that the contractors have been told to complete the works according to schedule and they could sub-contract works if required. He said officials and contractors would be held responsible for the delay in completion of works. Work had begun on the KEB canal after delay in preparation of designs for bridges and irrigation structures.
Crop holiday
The Minister said a crop holiday was announced for farmers whose lands fell under the canal ayacut. Efforts were being made to complete the canal works this season so as to ensure that the farmers do not have to forfeit another crop, he said.
Mr. Rao inspected the progress of works at the Krishna Western Delta head sluice at Seethanagaram. The vents at the head sluice would be replaced with eight gates as part of the modernisation works.
