Iron rod impales Delhi child

Firefighters rescued a 12- year- old boy in outer Delhi after an iron rod impaled his left thigh while he was trying to cross a locked gate by climbing over it.

The boy, Ikrar of Sultanpuri, was on his way home from the nearby playground on Wednesday night when he found that the colony’s main entrance gate was locked.

Without calling for help and ignoring the sharp spear- like rods on the top section of the tall irongate, he climbed it.

As he was about to turn and climb down on the other side, he lost balance and got his left leg skewered to the gate.

Out of pain and fear, the boy raised an alarm.

“ We ran to the spot after hearing his cries for help.

But we didn’t know what to do because the road has pierced his leg from two ends.

His leg was in a bloody mess,” a neighbour said.

In the meantime, his family also arrived and called the police and the fire brigade.

The firefighters brought a special blade from Madhuban Chowk and cut through the rod, freeing him from the imposing gate.

The boy was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, where doctors removed the offending rod. “ He is stable and out of danger,” a doctor said.
