Irom Sharmila to appear before Delhi court today, hopes to meet Modi

Activist Irom Chanu Sharmila, on a fast-unto-death since the past 10 years against alleged rights violations by security forces, will on Wednesday appear before a court here.

Sharmila, accompanied by a doctor, two nurses, a women police team and two jail officials, will be presented before the metropolitan magistrate of Patiala House court in connection with a pending case regarding a 2006 hunger strike at the Jantar Mantar, Sharmila’s family member told a news agency from Imphal.

Sharmila, who arrived here from Imphal yesterday, said hoping to meet country’s new Prime Minister Narendra Modi for repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), her family sources said.
