Hyderabad: Despite the parents are seething with anger against exorbitant fees being collected in the private schools in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and the adjoining Ranga Reddy district suburbs, the State government is yet to take a call on the daunting problem.
A big protest conducted by the parents at Dharna Chowk at Indra Park on Second Saturday being holiday attracted intellectuals and political leaders to join the chorus against the private schools “looting” the parents in terms of fees. They all in unison cried foul against the government for failing to set right the system in which the parents are being forced to pay hefty fees. Non-affordability coupled with inadequacies compelling the parents in the twin cities most of whom being private job holders took to streets seeking justice.
Noted Educationist Chukka Ramaiah extending solidarity with the parents on the protest, took serious exception to the State government on the issue turned worse from bad. Ramaiah accused the government of failing to open its eyes despite parents coming to the streets as most of the institutions are being run by many ministers. “Until such a situation continues, we cannot expect something better to the parents”, he deplored. He suggested that the private schools cannot indulge in such malpractices of collecting more fees than they are supposed to. “The Government should step in to control the situation which has already gone out of gear”, he warned.
TD legislator from LB Nagar and BC Welfare Association national president R Krishnaiah, who offered complete support to the just demand, demanded that the Government should come out with an Act on the fees structures that will check the maladies by the managements. In his usual talk, the BC leader took on the might of the Government for miserably failing to control the private schools and institutions “looting” the parents. (NSS)
