Baghdad, February 10: Iraqi security forces have arrested a militant with links to the terrorist al-Qaeda network in Fallujah.
The al-Qaeda operative was captured on Tuesday after security agents, tipped off by intelligence agencies, trapped him during a raid on several houses.
A police source said that the militant, identified as Abu Ja’far, is wanted for his involvement in several crimes and acts of sabotage in Fallujah, a city in the western province of Anbar.
An arrest warrant had been issued for him months ago.
Iraqi and US officials say al-Qaeda in Iraq carried out most of the major bombings in the country, including an attack on a Shia shrine in Samarra in February 2006 that sparked a wave of sectarian violence that almost led to an all-out civil war in Iraq.
