Baghdad: An Iraqi police official says a minibus loaded with explosives detonated on a crowded street in Baghdad, killing seven people, including two children.
The explosion took place today in the predominantly Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City. The official says the bomb detonated near the district government office. At least 18 people were wounded in the attack, including four children.
A hospital official confirmed the casualty figures. Both officials spoke anonymously, as they are not authorized to brief the media.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack. Baghdad sees near-daily bombings targeting Shiites and security forces, attacks often claimed by the Islamic State group, which controls much of northern and western Iraq.
