Baghdad, April 21: Two Iraqi police officers have lost their lives after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in the country’s central province of Babil.
A local police official told Voices of Iraq news agency on Tuesday that an explosive charge went off in the al-Muaalameen neighborhood in al-Musayyab district, located some 50 km (31 miles) northwest of Babil’s capital, Hilla.
Security forces cordoned off the area after the attack and launched an investigation to look into the potential motive behind the incident.
Elsewhere in the country, an Iraqi soldier sustained injuries on Tuesday in clashes between gunmen and army forces at a checkpoint in the Yarmaja region in southeastern Mosul.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, a high-ranking police officer survived an assassination attempt when a roadside bomb exploded in close proximity to his motorcade in southern Kirkuk city.
The blast left the officer’s driver wounded and caused damage to one of the vehicles in the motorcade.
