Iranian plane makes emergency landing

Tehran, May 24: A passenger plane belonging to Iran’s state-owned airline, Iran Air, has been forced to make an emergency landing at Mehrabad International Airport in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Iran Air IR409 fight was on a scheduled commercial passenger flight from Tehran to Iranian southern port city of Bushehr on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

The pilot radioed the air traffic controllers at Mehrabad International Airport that he had experienced a technical glitch, and declared an emergency only after 10 minutes into the flight.

Tuesday’s incident is the latest to have befallen the Iranian aviation industry.

In early January, at least 77 people were killed and 27 others injured when an Iranian passenger plane crashed near the northwestern city of Orumiyeh, West Azarbaijan province.

The Iran Air-operated plane reportedly approached the runway to land, but was forced to delay the touchdown due to bad weather. The aircraft then disappeared from radar and went down in a farmland after making a second attempt to land.
