Tehran, March 27: An Iranian lawmaker has denounced the recent UN resolution against human rights situation in Iran, saying the so-called defenders of human rights are “in the front line” of anti-democracy moves.
The UN Human Rights Council on Thursday narrowly approved a US and Swedish-backed proposal for appointing a special rapporteur to investigate allegations of human rights violations in Iran.
The Islamic Republic denounced the move as politically motivated which meant to divert attention from human rights abuses committed by the United States.
“In the 21st century, the modern barbarism has made a gesture of defending human rights, but is committing the most heinous acts of human rights violation,” Fatemeh Alia, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, was quoted by IRNA as saying on Sunday.
She added that the world public opinion was well aware of the fact that such resolutions against Iran was part of a “project” by the global arrogance which is fearful of Islam’s justice, peace and freedom.
The Iranian lawmaker urged American officials to observe human rights in their own country instead of creating “Islamophobia.”
