New York/Moscow: U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has alleged that Iran had supplied a missile to Yemen’s Houthi which was fired at Saudi Arabia last month. She also presented for the first time pieces of what she said were Iranian weapons supplied to the Iran-aligned Houthis, describing it as conclusive evidence that Tehran was violating U.N. resolutions.
On the other hand Yemen’s Houthi group has dismissed U.S. accusations and termed the allegations as ‘irresponsible, provocative and destructive’. Iranian mission of United Nations asserted that the evidence is fabricated. Spokesman of Iranian mission said ‘the charges are an attempt to put veil on the war crimes carried out by Saudi Arabia under American conspiracy.
Russian ambassador has also raised doubts over the claim. He said it is impossible to bring Iran made missile to Yemen.
Yemen’s Islamic organization Ansarullah has alleged that the charges against Iran are to divert world’s attention from Jerusalem issue. Top official of Ansarullah Abdel-Malek al-Ejri said in a message on his Twitter account “After three years of war, America suddenly finds evidence that Iran supports the Houthis.”
“America did not find any evidence in all the missiles fired from Yemen until now. The story is clear. They want to give Arabs a story to divert their attention from Jerusalem. Instead being angry at Israel, they wave the Iranian bogey,” he added.
It must be recalled that President Donald Trump on Dec. 6 announced U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, stirring anger across the Arab and Muslim world and concern among Washington’s European allies as well as Russia.
