Irani elated over consensus in RS over Thiruvalluvar’s birth anniversary celebrations

Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday endorsed the demand to celebrate the birth anniversary of famous Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar in schools across the country.

“I am extremely honoured and privileged that I had the opportunity to serve this particular request which came through a special mention by our Rajya Sabha MP Shri Tarun Vijay,” Irani told media persons here.

“The Rajya Sabha yesterday was unanimous in its support, that our great saint of Tamil Nadu and India, Thiruvalluvar, be celebrated across the country and especially our students and our children be told of the rich heritage and history that we have in the nation,” she added.

Expressing her delight to witness a political consensus in the Rajya Sabha on this issue, she said, “The fact that our Parliament, especially the Rajya Sabha, was unanimous in its support for such an initiative just reaffirms what I had said just two days ago in the Lok Sabha ‘Shiksha mein rajneeti nahin, lekin rashtraneeti ho rahi hai’.
