Tehran, March 07: Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has emphasized that Iraq should regain its proper position and stature in the international arena.
“Iraq should reclaim its rightful position in the international arena,” IRNA quoted Salehi as saying in a meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Iraq, Ed Melkart, in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on Sunday.
Salehi voiced Iran’s readiness to cooperate with Iraq in all fields to help the country with its development and progress.
“With the help of the United Nations and other international bodies, the Islamic Republic must help prepare the ground for Iraq to regain the standing it deserves at the international level,” the Iranian minister emphasized.
Meanwhile the UN representative called on international bodies and the World Bank to allocate funds and establish necessary mechanisms to settle environmental problems facing Iraq.
He added that Iranian and Iraqi experts would then be able to resolve any difficulties that may stand in the way of maintaining amicable relations between the two neighbors.
