Iran nuclear deal has long-term strategic implications, says defence expert

New Delhi: Defence expert Uday Bhaskar on Tuesday said that the deal signed for Tehran to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the easing of economic sanctions, is a significant one and has long-term strategic implications both for the region and for the larger global framework.

“Given the history of the estrangement and the bitterness between Iran and the United states that goes back to 1979 when we had the revolution there, its more than four decades and to that extend I think this is a very significant development. It has to my mind very long term strategic implications both for the region and perhaps for the larger global framework also,” Bhaskar said.

The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier today said that India welcomes the historic nuclear deal.

A deal on Iran’s nuclear programme has finally been reached, marking an end to 17 days of intense negotiations and decade-long standoff that threatened to stoke a new crisis in the Middle East.

The deal involves Iran accepting curbs on its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief. (ANI)
