‘Iran, Latin America ties a priority’

Tehran, August 24: President Ahmadinejad made the remarks at a meeting with the new Peruvian accredited ambassador to Iran, Javier Paolini Velarde, on Tuesday.

“There is a great potential for expansion of mutual ties (between Iran and Peru) which can be employed to the interests of the two nations,” ILNA quoted President Ahmadinejad as saying.

The Iranian chief executive also referred to the vast commonalities between Iran and Latin American nations and their extensive experience in different arenas, noting that Iran and the Latin America can enjoy this immense potential to expand their mutual and regional cooperation.

The Peruvian ambassador, on his part, said his country gives a high priority to its relations with Iran so that Tehran and Lima could further expand their ties.

After taking office in 2005, President Ahmadinejad expanded Iran’s cooperation with many Latin American states, including Venezuela and Cuba.

The US has repeatedly voiced its concern over Iran’s growing influence in Latin America and its close ties with leftist leaders in the region.
