Tehran, February 16: Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization Hamid Baghai has met with Greece’s Minister for Culture and Tourism, urging further expansion of cultural relations.
During the meeting with Pavlos Geroulanos, the Iranian official reiterated the need for more cultural exchanges between Iran and Greece. The two sides called for enhanced cultural ties, underlining the rich historical backgrounds of both nations.
“Considering the fact that the two countries have a rich cultural heritage and valuable treasure houses of ancient and historical relics, a proper basis should be made so that the two nations of Iran and Greece become more familiar with these valuable works,” IRNA quoted Baghai as saying on Tuesday.
Baghai, who is heading a delegation to Athens, noted that Iran is among the world’s top ten countries in terms of its tourist attractions.
The Iranian official pointed out that nations have many ancient relics that have been stolen and are now in other countries, stressing that such works have to be returned to their homelands.
The Greek minister also expressed his country’s willingness to enhance tourism and cultural ties with Iran.
Geroulanos noted that Iran is a country of civilized people and rich history, and that Tehran and Athens can further expand ties by building on their rich historical and cultural backgrounds.
