Iran firm on nuclear rights despite Western pressure

Tehran, December 19: Iran’s president says the Islamic Republic will stand against all foreign pressures and will maintain its independence of action.

Speaking in a press conference on the sideline of the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, “Any step Iran takes towards advancement is being met with Western opposition.”

He added that Iran’s nuclear program has become just an excuse for some countries.

Ahmadinejad noted that the West opposes Iran’s nuclear activities because it sees the Islamic Republic as an obstacle before its ambitions to gain control on the oil fields of the Middle East.

However, Ahmadinejad said Western actions against Tehran can never serve their interests.

He emphasized that abandoning double-standard policies can pave the way for fair relations between Iran and the West.
