Tehran, APril 25: Iran’s Lian ensemble, led by Mohsen Sharifian, is planning to perform regional music to mark the National Persian Gulf Day in the Swedish city of Gothenburg.
The group will introduce the music of Iran’s southern Bushehr Province at Gothenburg’s central library on April 30, 2011,
“Music is the common language for people of all races, nationalities, cultures and religions, and Lian ensemble tries to use this language to introduce Iran, Persian Gulf and Iranian culture and history,” Sharifian said.
Vocalist Aka Safavi and instrumentalists Ali Ahmadi, Hadi Manouchehri, Hossein Sangsar and Morteza Palizdan will accompany Sharifian during the concert.
The group will perform pieces inspired by the works of great Persian poets such as Ferdowsi, Khayyam and Mowlavi.
They will also introduce the religious music of Bushehr, which is a trance ceremony that uses drumming and dancing.
Sharifian believes that music of Bushehr is appealing because the province has always hosted people of different regions and nationalities.
“These occasional visits have influenced the local culture, literature and arts of Bushehr and in some cases even changed some of their aspects,” said the 36-year-old musician.
Lian ensemble has performed in numerous Iranian cities as well as foreign countries such as the US, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Turkey, Singapore, Russia, Jordan.
They also held concerts on the sidelines of the 2006 Soccer World Cup in Germany, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and the 2010 World Expo in China.
