Iran condoles Sri Lanka over floods

Tehran, February 09: Iran’s President Mahmoud AhmadinejadIran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has offered his sincere condolences to the Sri Lankan government and nation over the deadly flooding that has affected most parts of the country.

In a message to his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Iranian chief executive expressed sympathy over the death of 13 people and the displacement of more than a million people in the flood-stricken country.

Heavy flooding in north-central and north-eastern parts of the country, which were among the hardest-hit areas, has affected town centers, roads and agricultural land.

Over 250,000 displaced people have been transferred to government camps while others have sought refuge in homes of friends and relatives as well as other buildings, including temples.
