Iran calls off plan to dispatch warships to Atlantic

Iran has temporarily scrapped a plan to dispatch warships to the Atlantic Ocean.

Iranian Navy chief Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the move was just routine, ‘considering the situation in the region’.

Sayyari did not reveal the reason behind Iran’s change in plan, but said that ‘when piracy increases in the Gulf of Aden some changes will be applied in the assignments,’ the BBC reports.

According to the Japan Times, he said another fleet would be sent to the Atlantic Ocean in the future, without giving further details.(ANI)
