Iran was behind a car bomb attack on Israeli officials in New Delhi and a thwarted attack in Georgian capital Tbilisi, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday.
Netanyahu said Israel will not cease its fight against international terror, of which he identified Iran as the “world’s greatest exporter”, haaretz.com reported.
A car belonging to the Israeli embassy was gutted after an explosion Monday in a high-security zone in the Indian capital. Four people, including the wife of an Israeli diplomat, were injured, police said.
An attempted attack on the Israeli embassy in Tbilisi was foiled when an employee discovered a car fitted with an explosive device near the diplomatic mission, Israel Radio reported.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the employee called police who neutralised the explosive device.
Speaking after the attacks, Netanyahu blamed recent attempts on Israeli officials abroad on “Iran and its client Hezbollah”.
Standing behind Monday’s attacks was “Iran, the world’s greatest exporter of terror”, Netanyahu said.
“In the last few months we have witnessed several attempts to target Israeli citizens and Jews in a series of countries, such as Azerbaijan and Thailand.
“In all of these cases we were able to thwart these attacks in cooperation with local forces,” he said.
“The Israeli government and its security services will continue, with local security, to act against the international terror which Iran produces,” the prime minister said.
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel will not tolerate an attack on its officials abroad.
The “attacks against Israeli embassies abroad… just means that the state of Israel and its citizens face a daily threat of terror, both physical and diplomatic”, he said.
