Lahore, February 10: The snub to Pakistani players by the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be high on PCB chairman Ijaz Butt’s agenda during the executive board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Dubai.
Butt reached Dubai yesterday and a senior PCB official said the humiliation meted out to Pakistani players at the IPL auction last month will be raised by the Board chief.
None of the 11 Pakistani players were picked by any of the franchises during the auction and the decision was condemned both in India and Pakistan.
”Yes, we want the IPL issue to be discussed at the ICC level because our government has also indicated that the IPL and its franchises need to accept their mistake,” a PCB official was quoted as saying by ‘The News’.
He further added that IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s way of conducting the league affairs was another reason why the PCB wanted to raise the issue with the ICC officials.
The meeting will also discuss recommendations and report of ICC special task force on Pakistan cricket. The ICC task force headed by Giles Clarke, Chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, met last year and recommended organising matches between Pakistan and World XI to raise funds for Pakistan cricket. The task force was formed after international teams refused to tour Pakistan because of the security situation in the country.
The ICC will also begin to consider the location and scheduling of ICC events after 2015 under the newly agreed Future Tours Programme (FTP). ”With Future Tours Programme post-2012 now agreed in principle, the board will continue to consider ways in which greater context can be afforded to Test, ODI and Twenty20 International outside major ICC events,” the ICC said.
