Mumbai Indians and Chennai Superkings are the favourites to clash in the final of IPL 5 as far as bookies are concerned.
Last years finalists Mumbai and Chennai are the odds on favourites to battle for the crown once again. According to sources bookies are offering 4:1 odds on Mumbai or Chennai winning the title in this year’s T20 extravaganza.
This means that if you were to put Re 1 on Mumbai or Chennai and your team went on to win the title then you stand to bag Rs 4 for each rupee.
On the other hand, Pune and Deccan are the least favourite to win the crown. Both teams are going with odds of 20:1.
According to investigative agencies betting on IPL this year is already underway and is expected to go up to Rs 800-1000 Crores by the end of the tournament.
Bookies at present are taking bets on the winner, but this will soon change as more short term betting catches on.
In short term, bets are placed on individual matches, and other highlights of the match like top scorer, top wicket taker and the target a team will set playing first.
Bookies say that it is in short term bets that the real money is made and it is this which gets most money going in the circuit. Bookies allow upto three changes in bets before closing the bets at a point after which the result would become evident.
For example a bet on the total a team would make batting first would be closed 2 overs before the inning ends. Or if bets are being placed on a batsman scoring a fifty then bets will close once he crosses 45.
IPL being a short duration match, bookies rely on spinning as many short term bets during teh course of the match as possible to maximise profits.
Bets are also placed on toss, this has been the largest money spinner in cricket betting in recent times.
