Lahore, November 11: Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has called for the sacking of Pakistan skipper Younus Khan and coach Intikhab Alam following the national team’s ODI series loss to New Zealand in Abu Dhabi.
Inzaman said all-rounder Shahid Afridi must replace Younus as captain of Pakistan team.
”It is the right time for the board to show some teeth and appoint Shahid Afridi as captain of the one-day team after replacing Younus and Intikhab,” Inzamam said.
He said Younus had been given too much control, which is damaging the Pakistan team.
”I think the stubbornness of Younus is damaging the team. He has been given too much authority which he is not using properly,” the former middle-order batsman was qouted as saying by The News.
Inzamam said the frequent changes in the team were affecting the morale of the players and this was visible in the way they lost to the Kiwis.
”It made no sense to me to first drop Shoaib Malik and then Mohammad Yousuf for the last match. I don’t understand how this so-called rotation policy is benefiting the team. In fact, it is sending out the wrong messages to other players,” said the former skipper.
”Coach Intikhab Alam should also be replaced as he had failed to sort out issues within the team and balance the authority of the captain,” he said.
