Investigate me, or I’ll fast: TTD ex-boss

Hyderabad, August 18: Former TTD Board chairman B Karunakar Reddy has threatened to launch an indefinite fast if the government doesn’t respond to his plea of CBI inquiry into corruption charges levelled against him.

“The opposition is deliberately making corruption allegations that I misused funds for my selfish gains and I was an atheist,’’ he said.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, he said he had submitted a memorandum to governor’s office today, as he couldn’t secure an appointment with him, urging him to direct the government for either CBI or a sitting high court judge to probe into the charges.

“This malicious campaign has gained momentum especially after the demise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy. We need to know who is behind the campaign,’’ the Congress leader said.

“Had it been purely personal I wouldn’t have cared. But it’s the prestige of the temple and its 100 crore devotees. Some vested interests deliberately started this mudslinging for political mileage,’’ he said. Stating that the TDP president made corruption allegations in the TTD especially during his tenure, he said he was ready for any punishment if it was proved that he had done a mistake.

“When I demanded an inquiry the TDP leader ridiculed it. When he makes similar demand it should be construed as serious. Chandrababu Naidu seems to be giving new definition to it,’’ he said.

“Many religious programmes were taken up during my tenure. If it was proved that I took up them for selfish gains, I am ready for any punishment,’’ he reiterated. Claiming that he was a close aide and disciple of Rajasekhara Reddy, he objected to linking everything to YSR. “It was alleged that YSR sold Srikrishnadevaraya jewellery in Israel. If there was any mistake, it might have occurred on my part. And there is no substances in the allegations,” he said.
