Tehran, April 26: Iran’s Judiciary spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei says a court session has been scheduled for the three Americans who illegally entered the country in 2009.
Mohseni Ejei told reporters in the Iranian capital Tehran on Monday that the trial session will be held on May 11 for the three US citizens who were detained in the western Iranian district of Marivan on July 31, 2009.
Sarah Emily Shourd, 32, Shane Michael Bauer and Joshua Felix Fattal, both 28, were arrested on the Iranian territory after illegally crossing the border from the mountains of northern Iraq’s Kurdistan region.
The first trial of the three US nationals, held on charges of illegal entry and espionage, opened earlier in February in the Iranian capital city.
Shourd was not present at the session of the trial; however, her lawyer submitted a statement on her behalf. The three US citizens pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Iran released Shourd on a bail of $500,000 in September 2010, 14 months after her arrest. The decision was made based on humanitarian grounds.
