Intruder in OU women’s hostel create panic

Hyderabad, June 13: The entry of a mysterious intruder into Osmania University’s women’s hostel in the campus in the early hours of Sunday set off a scare among the students.

Police said a girl ‘noticed’ a person outside room no.132 of the main building around 3 a.m. He fled when she raised an alarm. Startled hostellers who woke up after the commotion searched the entire building along with the security personnel but could not trace the intruder.

Police said he could have sneaked into the hostel from an opening in the compound wall under construction.

When the hostel warden, Shailaja, came for inspection, irate hostellers locked her up in one of the rooms claiming the security was lax. They also staged a demonstration demanding that the university authorities provide basic amenities.

The students also detained the warden and other senior university officials, including Prof. Laxmaiah, Officer on Special Duty, for about two hours inside the hostel demanding foolproof security and other amenities.

Police intervened and freed the officials. The officials assured the students that a meeting would be held on June 21 to discuss the issues. They also promised to close the gap in the wall.
