Visakhapatnam, August 26: “The Praja Rajyam Party will extend issue based support as and when needed to the state government in the state Assembly,” asserted party president K Chiranjeevi on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering at the two-day plenary session of the party at the Port Stadium, Mr Chiranjeevi said that the PRP’s support would be based on the government’s commitment to solving people’s problems. Elaborating further, Mr Chiranjeevi said that the PRP would not hesitate to confront the government if it fails to address the problems of the people. He also warned that his party would fight a relentless battle for getting problems of the people solved.
Reacting on reports of a possible merger between the PRP and the ruling Congress party, Mr Chiranjeevi ruled out any such possibility. The PRP chief wondered why this talk was raised over and over again. He said, ““There is no question of merger PRP with other parties. I do not understand why this question has cropped up in the minds of some people.”
The PRP chief also introspected about the recent spate of defections from the party.
Mr Chiranjeevi told the gathering that the party has faced its toughest times since its formation with the desertions and the allegations of corruption raised against it. The PRP chief said that this should be taken as a lesson for the party.
He said, “I know politics is not a bed of roses. But for every party, ups and down are common and I will take them as challenge. This is the only way we can learn lessons and grow as responsible party.”
The actor-turned-politician also reacted to the reports of several Telugu film actors’ alleged involvement in drug and sex rackets. He said that the police should initiate stringent action against the guilty to check recurrence of these incidents, which has brought disrepute to the industry.
Nearly 10,000 workers from various districts attend the plenary session. However, PRP MLAs Shobhanagireddy and Maheswara Reddy were not able to attend the plenary since their flights were cancelled at the last minute due to inclement weather.
