New Delhi: Domestic handset maker Intex has tied up with Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio Infocomm to supply 4G handsets enabled with voice over LTE (VoLTE) feature.
The company has got order for 1 lakh phones from Reliance Jio, of which 20,000 will be delivered soon. The handsets are priced under Rs 10,000 and Reliance Retail will distribute the devices, which will also bear Intex branding.
The company also plans to come out with more 4G handsets priced around Rs 5,000.
“We are delighted to partner Reliance Jio and contribute towards bridging the digital divide in India. This is a sure-footed step towards the Digital India initiative aimed at making India an economic powerhouse,” Sanjay
Kalirona Head Mobile Business, Intex Technologies, told PTI.
He said the device has passed all quality tests done on Reliance Jio’s network.
“The power that 4G speed brings to one’s palms is phenomenal and with Intex phones meeting all stringent quality tests on Reliance ecosystem, we are confident of a superlative 4G customer experience on Intex phones,” Kalirona said.
Reliance Jio plans to offer 4G voice calling using the VoLTE technology besides rolling out high-speed Internet services using a fibre network, in addition to the 4G wireless network. It also has plans in both wireless (mobile) and fixed line telecom segments.
The company is expected to commercially launch its 4G services by the end of this year.
