International Urdu Convention next year – Mahmood Ali

Hyderabad: Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Dy. CM of Telangana State told that there is a need for holding International Urdu Convention. He slammed the parents that they claimed their love for Urdu language but when the time comes for admissions of their children into schools, they get them admitted in English medium schools. There is a common apprehension that since Urdu is not linked with employment, there is no advantage of getting education through Urdu medium but the fact is Urdu medium students in the past occupied very important posts in the country. Urdu as a subject can also be selected for various competitive examinations. Mr. Mahmood Ali was addressing a function at Salarjung Museum yesterday organized by Urdu Academy, Jeddah for giving awards to toppers in SSC examination. Awards were also given to best headmasters and best subject teachers of Urdu medium schools.

Mr. Abid Rasool Khan, Chairman of Minorities Commission, Prof. S.A. Shukoor, Director of Urdu Academy, Mr. Khaleequr Rahman, Mr. Surender Reddy, Director of Govt. examinations, Mr. Hari Babu, DEO, SK Afzaluddin and others attended the function. Mr. Abid Siddiqui conducted the meeting.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jamalullah Qadri highlighted the efforts of Urdu Academy of Jeddah for the promotion of Urdu language. He informed that for the past 18 years, Urdu Academy has been making efforts to help the students.

Mr. S.A. Shukoor told that Govt. of Telangana established Minorities Residential Schools in Telangana Districts to promote Urdu language.
