International fake note racket busted, two arrested

Bangalore, July 16: City police today claimed to have unearthed an international racket circulating fake currency notes printed in Pakistan with the arrest of two persons.

Police also seized fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 16 lakh from them.

The accused, Anrool Sheik alias Salim (27), a native of West Bengal and Babu alias ‘Dubai’ Babu (50), from Tamil Nadu were arrested yesterday and Rs four lakh fake currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and Rs 12 lakh fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination seized from them, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari told reporters here today.

The duo told police that a huge racket of circulating fake notes in Rs 500 and rs 1000 denominations was in operation in the country for some time. The notes are printed in Pakistan and then smuggled to Bangladesh and circulated through border villages of Bangladesh, he said.
