The National Service Scheme Cell of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) celebrated the UN International Day of Non-Violence. To commemorate the 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti), Mahatma Gandhi’s path of ahimsa and the NSS theme of the day (From Non-Violence to Humanity), a documentary film “Little Terrorist” was screened. The programme was organized on 2nd October 2012 at the CPDUMT Auditorium, MANUU Campus, Hyderabad in collaboration with Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy and Department of Social Work.
Prof. T.V. Kattimani, Dean, School of Mass Communication and Journalism chaired the session. Dr. Farida Siddiqui, Honorary Director, Central Library MANUU moderated the post-film screening discussion. The Programme Officer of NSS, K. M. Ziyauddin, Asst. Professor at Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion & Inclusive Policy of the university conducted the programme. He gave a presentation about NSS, its objectives and the historical-philosophical background of its evolution in India. Dr. Mohd. Shahid, Programme Coordinator, NSS and Head, Deptt. of Social Work reflected on the background of the NSS Cell and the intention of screening the documentary film “Little Terrorist” on Non-Violence Day. The 15 minutes documentary film captivated the audience invoking the finer grains of humanity which are beyond the territorial and ritualistic boundaries of region, religion and caste.
Earlier, a slogan writing & Quiz Competition was held at lecture hall complex. Nayyar Iqbal (B.Ed.) bagged first prize in Quiz, based on life & writing of Mahatma Gandhi. Syed Imran Rizvi (B.Ed) & Suhel Ahmed won first & second prizes for slogan writing on the theme “From Non-Violence to Humanity”. Mr. Israr Alam, Asst. Professor Social Work, Co-ordinated the event. Mr. Shahid Raza, proposed vote of thanks.
