Hyderabad: Govt. of Telangana is contemplating to introduce grading system abandoning marks system. This step is being taken to end suicides by the students under the pressure exerted from corporate and private colleges.
Govt. proposes to introduce this system with effect from Intermediate examination to be held in March 2018.
It may be mentioned that Govt. had constituted a committee to find out the causes for the students committing suicide. This committee suggested that instead of awarding marks, grades should be given. It is expected that the pressure on the students for getting highest marks would end. Due to the introduction of the grading system, there will be a difference of 10 marks from one grade to the other.
Mr. Madhusudhan Reddy, President of Govt. Junior Colleges Union applauded the step proposed to be taken by the Govt. and said that it is a welcome gesture. He further said that it is essential to introduce this system in order to curb suicides among students.
Mr. P. Sudhakar Reddy, MLC told that in order to excel others, private college managements are exerting pressure on students for getting highest marks to give wide publicity to their colleges.
With the introduction of this system, no student could be declared to have secured the highest marks in the intermediate examination. This will reduce the number of suicides among the students.
