Hyderabad, August 13: The city of Hyderabad is famous for its mannerism, culture, tasty Biryani and gorgeous Sherwani. The city has now become famous for fast moving autorickshaws and rash driving drivers. Most of these drivers buy autorickshaw by borrowing money on exorbitant rates of interest. These auto drivers remain under the clutches of money-lenders for years together.
These days, some Muslims philanthropists are actively supporting the movement for Zakaat Collection. This move is receiving applause from various sections of the society. An autodriver by name AbdurRaoof has pasted the Zakaat poster on the back of his autorickshaw to propogate Zakaat collection compaign. He says that the amount collected by way of Zakaat can be given to such poor auto drivers which can change their lifestyle. They could be relieved of the heavy amount of interests which they pay to non Muslim money lenders. Most of these auto drivers are illiterates. They don’t even know how much money remains to be repaid after paying interest amount. If the loan instalments are not paid in time, the money lenders abuse them using filthy language. They even engage rowdysheeters to recover the balance amounts. In many cases, the autorickshaw is confiscated by the money lenders resulting in the starvation of members of the drivers.
He appealed to the Muslim elite and the rich persons of Muslim Ummah to arrange interest free loans since no bank comes to their help. If their lifestyle improves, a day will come when these auto drivers will be in a position to distibute zakaat to others.
