Intensifed ticket checking drive by SCR nets RS.69.60 CR

As per the direction of P. K. Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway carried out a series of special drives and regular checks in the month of January, 2014 against ticketless / irregular travel on its jurisdiction involving ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force personnel. During the month of January, 2014, an amount of Rs. 7.4 Cr. was collected from ticketless / irregular travelers and un booked luggage cases towards penalty.
During the course of various checks conducted, a total of 2.4 lakh cases were booked in January 2014. These include 68 thousand cases of ticket travel, 93 thousand cases of irregular travel (adults found traveling o­n child / Sr. Citizen tickets, General/Season ticket holders found traveling in reserved compartments etc.) and 76 thousand cases of Un-booked luggage.
During the Ticket Checking drives of the first ten months, April 2013 to January 2014 of current financial year, the zone apprehended a total of 22.2 lakh cases comprising of 6,36,480 cases of ticketless travel, 7,94,479 cases of irregular travel and 7,90,677 cases of un-booked luggage. An amount of Rs. 69.6 Cr. was realized from these cases towards penalty which is 12 % more compared to that of last year.
The surprise checks carried out by the Flying Squads of the Divisions and Head Quarters. Fortress checks conducted under the direct supervision of senior railway officials at several major stations. These intensive checks helped to boost sale of tickets across the counters and to curb the social menace of ticketless and irregular travel.
In this connection, the General Manager issued instructions to the officials concerned to step up these checks in the ensuing holidays / festive season in order to ensure a comfortable and secure travel to the bona- fide passengers. (NSS)
