Kanpur, February 19: The intelligence machinery here would be strengthened in the wake of recent arrests of Maoists from the city, district administration said here today.
Expressing concern over Maoists using the city as a den, District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat told reporters that the administration and the intelligence agencies have to work in a coordinated manner to curb the menace.
Efforts should be made to instill public faith in the administration, he said.
CPI(Maoist) activist Rajendra Munda, who was arrested from Gorakhpur on February 14, had told police that he used to live in a rented house in Kanpur. He disclosed to the STF during interrogation that his house was being used as a den by members of the banned organisation.
Eight CPI(Maoists) were also apprehended from the city on February 8.
