New Delhi: Intellectuals strongly condemned the proposal to introduce a course on ‘Islamic Terrorism’ in world-renowned educational institution Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Noted writer and critic Professor of Allahabad University Ali Ahmed Fatimi strongly condemned the move an appealed to unitedly raise voice against it. Condemning the move academician Ilyas Malik said Islam is the religion of peace and harmony hence linking it with terrorism is not acceptable.
It must be noted that the Academic Council of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) reportedly “passed” a proposal to set up a Centre for National Security Studies under which there would be a course on “Islamic Terrorism”.
Prof Fatimi asked not to make JNU a political arena. It is against secular values, he said. Prof Fatimi said let it remain a university it should not be converted into temple or masjid. He said if the report is true, professors, writers, poets should raise voice against it. Prof Fatimi also raised question against the silence of professors.
On the other hand, Prof. Anwar Pasha felt that the news has no truth. No such thing appeared in the JNU academic council meeting held four days ago. He said once the minute of the meeting is circulated the truth will come out.
Academician Ilyas Malik said linking Islamic with terrorism is highly condemnable that too in an institution like JNU.
