Hyderabad, June 05: Cyberabad police today registered a case against Congress MP from Viajayawada, Lagadapati Rajagopal, for allegedly insulting the national flag during his visit to the city in December when the separate Telangana agitation was at its peak. In December last, the unified Andhra protagonist from Vijayawada landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad after announcing to go on a fastuntodeath in the city to counter the separate Telangana agitation. Anticipating flare up of regional passions, Cyberabad police took him into custody at the airport itself and took him to Pahadisharief police station before he was shifted to Vijayawada.Rajagopal carried a national flag throughout his journey in the city.]
An advocate, Swamy, filed a petition in a court stating that Rajagopal insulted the national honour by carrying the national tricolour on his shoulders.
The court referred the Pahadisharief police to register a case and investigate into the complaint. “We have registered a case under Insult to National Honour Act and are investigating,” Pahadisharief police inspector P Srinivas Reddy said.
