Inspite of heavy rains, slight rise in water levels of Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar

Hyderabad: People expected that the water levels of Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar would rise considerably but enough water was not accumulated in these water bodies. Perhaps it is due to the illegal constructions in the catchment areas of both these lakes. After the protest by NGOs, Govt. issued orders but they were not implemented.

It may be mentioned that the total capacity of Osman Sagar is 1790 ft. It has the capacity to store 3900 TMC of water whereas the water level of Himayath Sagar is 1736.5 ft. It can store 2967 TMC of water. However, during the heavy rains last week, only 50 cm. water level was raised. Till yesterday, water level of Osman Sagar was 1777.9 ft. which went up to 1777.950 ft. In the same manner, the water level of Himayath Sagar is recorded at 1748.75 ft. which rose to 1748.80 ft.
