Insomniacs to get special treatment

Hyderabad, January 29: About 93 per cent Indians are sleep deprived, getting less than eight hours sleep every day, according to a survey conducted in 25 cities last year by the American Phillips Sleep Medicine Institute.

The survey also revealed 11 per cent Indians took leave from work because of lack of sleep. Sleep Care Solutions (SCS), a city- based sleep solutions company launched their first state-of-the-art sleep care facility on Friday. This will be the first independent sleep disorder testing facility in the state.

Set up under guidelines of the Joint Commission and American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the centre was inaugurated by the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu. “In the present stressful and competitive life, a person is not able to get minimum proper sleep, leading to various sleep disorders. This needs to be identified at the earliest to prevent further complications,” Naidu said.

“The dedicated sleep care facility will offer comprehensive approach for diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders using latest technology and therapeutic options,” said Dr Lavanya Gali, medical director, SCS and a certified specialist in sleep medicine.

SCS also has portable system for extending its services to patient’s residence and in hospitals. “During the diagnosis, different sleep stages at night are monitored. In order to record the status, a unit of sleep diagnosis system will also be extended to the patient. Later, basing the recorded sleep data, treatment will be suggested. Sleep Care plans to open 25 more facilities, according to Vamsi Maddipatla, president, SCS.
