Injustice to Urdu-speaking community unfortunate: Prof. Kodandaram

Commenting upon the exploitation against marginalized sections in United Andhra Pradesh state, Chairman Telangana Political Joint Action Committee, Prof. Kodandaram termed the injustices done to Urdu-speaking community as unfortunate. Mr. Kodandaram said by linking the Urdu language with the religion, Andhrite leaders made things difficult for Urdu-speaking people, even though Urdu is not a language of any religion or person. He further said before the formation of Andhra, Urdu was widely spoken in Telangana region. Even majority of non-Muslim people were called Urdu-speaking community. But in the aftermath of Andhra formation, Muslims were deprived of employment in the name of Urdu language and thus their economy was undermined. The industrial institutions established during Asif Jahi era, which have a long list, were shut down by Andhrite rulers in a planned manner, leaving nearly 20 thousand Muslims jobless.

He alleged Andhrite leaders’ failure in protection of cultural inheritance like, bangle making, karchob, zari work, preparation of chandi ka warq (silver foil) etc. To further weaken the economy of Muslims Andhrite leaders gobbled up the Waqf properties which were endowed for the welfare and prosperity of Muslims.

Profl. Kodandaram informed that Telangana Joint Action Committee is preparing a vision document to stop such injustices in the proposed Telangana state which gave special attention to the welfare and development of Muslims in Telangana. He felt that Muslims should be given reservations in education and employment proportionate to their population.
