Hyderabad, January 17: Urdu has been given the status of 2nd official language in 13 districts of the state but Urdu has not been given the position it deserves even in the office of chief minister. This is indicated by the fact that there is no arrangement of providing Urdu newspaper clippings to the chief minister. It would not be untrue to say that chief minister is unaware of the public and minority issues published in Urdu newspapers.
It is the duty of department of information and public relations to present the summary of important news published in newspapers but the department of Urdu has no interest in doing this hence only clippings of Telugu and English newspapers are presented before the chief minister.
It is the duty of department of information and public relation to keep news digest at the chief minister’s meeting at 5. Chief Minister after going through the summary sends it to the concerned department or minister. In some cases chief minister asks investigative report also.
It was tried during TDP rule to include Urdu newspapers in news digest but after Congress came to power the matter was put in cold storage.
