Injured Casey pulls out of PGA Shanghai, Hong Kong

Shanghai, November 08: World number four Paul Casey pulled out of the WGC-HSBC Champions on Sunday and will also miss next week’s Hong Kong Open after a recurrence of a torn rib muscle.

The Englishman, who only returned after an 11-week absence at the World MatchPlay Championship last weekend, will fly straight to the United States to see a specialist.

“He’s going to get back and see a specialist he’s been working with, go get it scanned, have a look and see,” said his manager Guy Kinnings.

“He’s sufficiently concerned to want to see to that straightaway, because he doesn’t know if it means he’s out for a while or maybe just a worrying tweak.

“I’m not going to make any decisions beyond saying he can’t play Hong Kong, which he’s hugely disappointed about.

“As you can imagine, he still felt he had a chance to win the Race to Dubai.”

Casey is fifth in the European Tour money list and planned to play Hong Kong and the Dubai World Championships to try to end the season on top.
