Occupant of the Nakkala community at LB Nagar on Wednesday asserted that they were mugged by a group of 250 hooligan on Saturday in an attempt to move out them from their homes.
On Wednesday,the residents speak about their torment of being abused and threatened by the thugs at a press conference organised by the Human Rights Forum and Basthi Vikas Manch.
President of Human Rights Forum, S Jeevan Kumar, said that the current market value the two-acre land where the Nakkala community lives in their tents is close to 60 crore some ministers were eyeing on that land. “Earlier the tenents were threatened to evacuate the land and at around 2 am. on Saturday, a group of thugs attacked the people and even bulldozed some of their tents.”
The delinquent threatened to rape them if they did not move out of the place. Another victim said the men sprayed pepper in the children’s eyes.
One of the victim said that around 40 people took him to a forest in Nalgonda district and tortured him. When they got the news that some of their men were arrested, they left him in the jungle. A local helped him to get to the hospital.
According to Jeevan Kumar, two police personnel were posted in the area, and 22 people were arrested. Further investigation needs to be carried out to know the seriousness of the incident.
Jeevan Kumar further insisted that, “District collector should without delay visit the area and call for an investigation into the issue. As the residents are living in a state of fear as nuisance continue. They demanded more protection for the people.”
