Govt. of Telangana has permitted Commercial Tax Department to restore informer system in order to curb the practices of Commercial Tax evaders. The amount of incentives for informers has been raised from Rs. 10000 to Rs. 50000. This system was in vogue in Excise and Prohibition Department which will now be introduced in Department of Commercial taxes.
It is reported that Commercial Taxes Department is the largest department which creates an income of Rs. 26 thousand to Rs. 30 thousand crore income through VAT, Entertainment Tax and CST. It was observed that due to shortage of adequate staff, the department has not been able to collect more revenue. It has therefore being decided to raise income by getting secret information through informers against the traders who do not furnish the correct details of the taxes payable to the Govt. The officials of the department have a feeling that if honest and active officers are recruited, its income could increase.
