Hyderabad, April 20: A 20-day-old baby girl was kidnapped from the Tandur district hospital in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The baby’s mother, Ambi Bai, was admitted to the hospital recently for a family planning operation. Ambi Bai delivered the baby girl 20 days ago. Ambi Bai hails from Rampur tanda in Tandur mandal and her husband, Laxman, was a daily wage earner.
According to police and eye-witnesses, an unidentified woman was found moving in the hospital. “The woman was pretending herself to be an attendant of another patient and befriended Ambi Bai,’’ Tandur police said. Late in the night when Ambi Bai and her attendant were sleeping, the woman took the baby and fled from the hospital.
Around 3 a.m, Ambi Bai woke up and to her horror found her baby missing. “There are six other patients and their attendants in the ward when the girl was taken away,’’ Tandur police said.
A case of kidnap was registered and investigation is on to nab the woman. Though a security guard was posted at the hospital, police said he was not on duty yesterday night.
